DEPARTMENT OF PHARMACY


The Pharmacy at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, is responsible for the procurement, storage and distribution of medicines,  dressings and allied healthcare materials throughout the institute. The pharmacy functions round the clock to ensure uninterrupted availability of essential medicines for patient care. It also prepares specialized pharmaceutical formulations that are not commercially available. The department promotes the rational use of medicines and encourages the use of generic drugs in accordance with Government of India guidelines. Pharmacists ensure safe dispensing, prescription review, medication reconciliation, and drug information services to improve patient safety. The pharmacy maintains strict quality control through drug verification, inventory management, complaint redressal mechanism for drugs and batch recall procedures. It also supports emergency drug procurement and supplies medicines under various welfare schemes. Through its commitment to quality, efficiency, and patient-centered pharmaceutical care, the Pharmacy plays a vital role in the healthcare services of PGIMER.
